As Team Philadelphia’s 16U AA winds down its EJEPL season this weekend at the Midget Showcase, it sits atop the 16U Diamond division with an 11-1-1-3 record for 40.5 points. They lead the league with a +49 having scored 66 goals (second best). Most importantly, they only have surrendered 17 (or 1.06 goals per game – a league best).

While playing stingy defense all season, the backbone of the team has been its one-two punch between the pipes: Hunter Chubb and Joey Gambino.

The two have a combined 1.00 goals against average and a .945 save percentage. Gambino is third in the league (10 or more games played) in save percentage with a .950 while Chubb is seventh with a .943.

Gambino is second in the league (10 or more games played) with 0.85 goals against while Chubb is fourth with a 1.06 GAA.

Chubb leads the league in wins with eight.

While both have been outstanding, their key has been their ability to make the saves they have had to make - either by helping their teammates preserve a lead or giving their teammates a chance to stay in the game.

With the playoffs right around the corner, it all comes down to goaltending … and the 16U AA’s have two of the best in the league.
